Justin Bieber “Boyfriend”

Today Justin Bieber released the first single off his album Believe. Bieber’s newest single is titled “Boyfriend.” In less than 24 hours, the single has already reached number 1 on iTunes. Beliebers have been blowing up the Twitter scene in anticipation and in support of the new single.
The song opens up with Bieber whispering “If I was your boyfriend I’d never let you go. I can take you places you ain’t never been before.” From here Bieber turns to his faseltto showing the world that despite hitting puberty, his voice has retained some of it’s higher range. More or less the song retains this pattern, hinting in fact that there is a lot of repetition within the song. The song contains words such as fondue, Buzz Lightyear, swag and of course the track’s name “boyfriend.” Is it just me or does this suddenly remind you of Justin Timberlake after his N’SYNC days? After listening to this song, I suddenly found the urge to play ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’ by Mr. Timberlake himself.
I want to applaud Justin for growing into his new voice, accepting it and using what he’s got. He’s truly shown that despite having a smaller range, there are various ways he can shape his voice and use it to his potential. As for my opinion? I’m not 100% in love with it, but the hook is very catchy. This is partly due to the fact that I love Indie, Rock/Alternative music. I also feel that the lyrics are weak, but I’ll give him props for rapping. It’s nice to see artists taking risks, because with these risks they reveal to the world their hidden talents. They’re sharing parts of them that we wouldn’t have known without taking these risks.
Rating: Form your own opinion. Don’t take my word for it because you may think something else

Neverest -Canadian National Anthem. Good or Bad?

Tonight Canadian Band Neverest who’s EP, About Us went platinum last December performed the Canadian National Anthem at the 61st NBA All Star Game. As both a Canadian and a proud fan of the band, I believe they performed the Canadian Anthem exceptionally well. Unlike other renditions of our anthems which are either accompanied by a piano or sung acapella they did something different. They put their own spin on it, they made it theirs. Four part harmony accompanied by a guitar, irresistible right? Apparently not, all over Twitter tweets such as “The U.S get’s Mary J Blige and we get Neverest? WTH?” “Who the hell is Neverest???? I might NEVERest listen to em again lol #ohcanada.” “NBA is dissin Canada. How you get Mary J. and we get Neverland or whatever their name is…” “The US got Mary J Blige and we got Neverest? Where were you at on this one Biebs?.” Among the swamp of negativity in the twitter world, Neverest fans backed up the band by sending positive tweets. One example of such tweets are “Dear Beliebers, #OHCANADA isn’t trending because of your beloved Bieber. IT’S TRENDING BECAUSE OF MY LOVES @neverestmusic! #NEVEREST.” It baffles me because this Generation cannot grasps many concepts, especially the concept of “real” music.
Today anything with auto-tune is considered music. Meaning that anyone could be a musician, as long as you have auto-tune. With that anybody could be a star. You’ll have fans and people will come to listen to you at your shows. WRONG! There are other artists besides Justin Bieber, One Direction, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, etc. We’re forgetting where music has stemmed from. Real music is written with meaning and passion, and is performed in that dignity and manner. Without passion you don’t have music. Let’s not forget it’s the difference and individuality of an artists that attracts fans to them. For example, if all artists were exactly the same what would attract you to one then another. What calls them to you? See, no answer. What all music lovers need to understand is that if their favorite band were to continuously release the same sound on each album year after year, they’d get tired of them. They’d find another artists to obsess over while the band loses fans. Therefore, when a band does something unique, something different they do it to give the fans something new, something fresh so their not stuck with the same old same old. They want to keep you entertained not bored. That being said, you need to appreciate these risks they take.
To all the American viewers, your allowed to be both shocked and lost because Neverest is a Canadian band. As we are both aware, American artists, musicians and actors dominate all industries. Just take this as a little introduction from the band. And to all the people hating on Neverest for their rendition of the Canadian National Anthem, take this and keep it with you every time you judge something that your not accustomed to. There’s a reason behind it. And for all those people who don’t know who Neverest is, try listening to new types of music and take a break from Top 40 mainstream music. Who know’s, maybe you’ll discover an artist or band you might have never discovered
QOTD: What did you think of Neverest’s performance?
